Sous is a cooking app. We collect the least we can to make it work, we don't sell your personal information, and you can export or delete everything at any time. Here's the detail.
What we collect
- Account — your email and a display name.
- Your content — the recipes, edits, notes, equipment, pantry, plans, and cook outcomes you create or import.
- Preferences — coach style, dietary needs, cuisines you love, units.
- Usage— basic counts (e.g. how many AI actions you've used this month) to run the free tier, plus standard server logs.
How we use it
We use your data to run Sous: store your library, scale and schedule recipes, generate coaching, estimate nutrition, and tailor suggestions to your taste and gear. We use aggregate, non-identifying signals (like how often a public recipe is cooked and loved) to rank the public commons.
AI processing
To import, build, and coach, the relevant recipe text and your preferences are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate a response. We don't use your private content to train models, and we don't send more than the request needs. AI output is assistance, not professional or food-safety advice — see the Terms.
What we share
Recipes you mark Public (and their author display name) are visible to anyone in Discover and via their share link. Recipes you share with a friendare visible to that friend. Everything else is private to you. We use service providers (hosting, database, AI, email) under contract to operate Sous; we don't sell your personal information.
Your controls
From Settings you can export everything you own as a portable file, and delete your library or your account. Deletion is real — it removes your content from our systems (backups age out on a rolling basis). You can change your preferences any time.
Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in. No third-party ad tracking.
Children
Sous isn't directed at children under 13, and the “what can my kid do?” feature is a tool for a supervising adult, not an account for a child.
